When I arrived at our school in Bogotá, I was wrapped in hugs by 1st graders calling me “Papa.” This is what sponsorship means to these kids.

I’m Steve Cervera, President of Impact Initiatives. In February, I had the privilege of visiting Liceo Nueva Vida, our school in Bogotá, Colombia. Watching how God is at work in the lives of our students was incredibly moving. One unforgettable moment: a group of 1st graders ran up and hugged me, calling me “Papa.” Many of these children don’t know their fathers. To be embraced like that reminded me how deeply this school is meeting emotional and spiritual needs.

A Near-Closure and a Miraculous Reopening

Just a few months ago, this life-giving school nearly closed. In late 2024, financial strain brought us to the edge of shutting down. Hundreds of children stood to lose not just an education, but a lifeline of safety, discipleship, and hope. But thanks to God’s provision and faithful supporters like you, the school reopened in February—and I got to see the joy in these students’ eyes firsthand.

Meet the Team Changing Lives

The teachers and staff at Liceo Nueva Vida are not just educators—they are ministers. They pour into each child with love, wisdom, and spiritual encouragement. I saw it everywhere I went: this school is more than a building; it’s a ministry.

You Can Be Part of This Miracle

This year, we’re believing for 250 new sponsors to step forward and say yes to changing a child’s life. $43/month provides a scholarship that includes quality education, entrepreneurship training, art and sports programs, and Christ-centered care. If you’ve ever wondered what difference you can make—this is it.
