Skating Towards a Brighter Future

Gretel is an 11th-grade student at Liceo Nueva Vida, a school supported by Impact Initiatives. She’s on the verge of graduating—carrying with her a legacy of perseverance, love, and talent nurtured by the steady presence of her grandmother Carmen.

Gretel and her older brother were raised by Carmen from a very young age, after their parents were unable to care for them. Carmen became their greatest refuge—raising them with love, discipline, and values. Her guidance led Gretel into the world of sports, where she discovered not only a passion, but also a purpose: artistic roller skating.

Over the years, Gretel has competed in both municipal and national skating events, consistently impressing with her discipline and talent. She is a skater with heart—and a student with drive.

Resilience Rooted in Love

Today, Gretel lives in a modest home with her grandmother and brother, where love is stronger than hardship. Despite facing moments of abandonment and emotional pain, she has grown into a bright, compassionate, and resilient young woman.

She serves on the student media team at Liceo Nueva Vida, contributing her creativity and leadership. Among her classmates, she shines not only for her talent, but for her spirit of gratitude and service.

Talent, Gratitude, and Hope

Gretel dreams of one day representing Colombia on the international skating stage. More than anything, she hopes to give her grandmother the better future she deserves—an offering of thanks for a lifetime of unconditional love and sacrifice.
