Meet Andrés Filipe

A little boy with a big heart.

Andrés Felipe is just seven years old, but his heart is wise, kind, and full of hope. He’s a second-grade student at Liceo Nueva Vida, a school supported by Impact Initiatives, and the only child of a family that gives everything they can to serve and love others.

His parents, once farmers, now make a humble living collecting and recycling plastic by hand. For them, recycling is more than survival—it’s their way of caring for the earth and setting an example of stewardship for their son.

A Family That Recycles Hope

The Soler family lives in a small wooden home in a makeshift neighborhood in Altos de Cazucá, on the outskirts of Bogotá. Though they have very little, they are among the most generous and dedicated families at Liceo Nueva Vida.

They regularly help with school repairs, participate in community events, and share whatever they can. Andrés’s mother bakes handmade bread over a wood fire to bless teachers, while his father donates time and labor from his experience in farming and construction.

An Exceptional Child with a Purpose

Andrés is kind, thoughtful, and intelligent. Every morning, he wakes at 5:00 AM to walk with his parents to school—then joins them afterward in their recycling work. He already understands the value of hard work and of giving back to his community.

His dream is to become a police officer—not for power, but to protect his neighborhood and care for those who need help most. His sense of purpose is deeply rooted in the love he receives at home and at Liceo Nueva Vida, which he calls his second family.
